Men’s journal is known for its articles on cutting edge fitness, health and travel for men who crave for adventures and fun in their lives. It clearly defines practical advices and information for men to spend leisure time effectively. March 2010 issue is no different from their mantra- to provide all that men need to know.
An exclusive picture of Bruce Willis shot by the ace photographer Jim Wright grabs the attention of both sexes easily. Willis is clad in a tank by James Perse and pants by Jet Lag. The cover lines also mentions few noteworthy things like a special report on the knee protection and rehabilitation. However the cover lacks usual eye catching headlines. The need of the headline highlighting ‘make the perfect burger’ seems quite misfit with the rest.
The ‘what’s new’ section proved to be a potpourri of several immiscible news items. On one hand there is an ad on Royal spirit whisky and on the other there is side column coverage on largest single mirror ever built on space. Both seem to be two extremes. The editor could have given information bout recent developments that are quite appealing to common men. But the food and drink segment of this month edition is worth mentioning. It deals with an article on pairing beer with food. The columnist has painstakingly mentioned each food items that can be clubbed with beers.
The two major segments of attraction of March edition is the much hyped feature with Bruce Willis and the write up on sports egomaniacs. The article titled ‘A Field Guide to Sports ego is jam packed with vocabulary. The writer has focused too much on the quality of words used that it failed to communicate the intended message effectively. The articles covers seven sportsmen and the scams they were involved which shows the self important nature of them. The article proves to have enough substances as content but fails to keep the attention of the reader due to bombardment of words in the introduction part.
What would Bruce do, is the one part that makes up for the cost of the magazine. Bill Zehme, the author had been successful in striking the emotional chord with the actor. The interview brings out the actors different shades as a father, husband and above all a man who has learnt to be happy despite challenges. The article more or less sounds bit psychological evaluation of men’s reactions to different phases in their lives, yet it had been successful in holding the interest of the followers. It is no way sounded preaching. The writer Bill Zehme definitely deserves a word of appreciation for the effort.
The space also should be reserved for Gustave Axelson article on winter camping. The article sound convincing enough to take a trip and was furnished well with all the necessary information. It sounded well crafted to evoke imagination in readers mind and brain.
In short the edition proves to be informative and the magazine seems to have maintained the quality it assures to deliver with each editions.
Hi, cool website and Journal.
